Handmade Punjabi Seviyan Recipe - Pakistani Sweets


Handmade Punjabi Seviyan Recipe is a special Pakistani delicacy. These are made with all-purpose flour, semolina ( suji ), a pinch of salt, and water. This is entirely a handmade product. These are a good source of carbohydrates and give good energy to the human body.  This sweet dish is also very healthy.

How Handmade Seviyan is Cooked:


Seviyan is cooked in milk and without milk also. The recipe with milk and without milk is different. Therefore, seviyan, desi ghee, sugar, almonds, raisins, and dry coconut are the main ingredients. Here, I am sharing the seviyan recipe without milk. It is called dry vermicelli. These are also called potty wali seviyan. It is a special Punjabi style of cooking handmade seviyan.

Seviyan Recipe Ingredients:

  • Seviyan 1 cup-  ( 300 gram )
  • Sugar 1 cup - ( 300 grams)
  • Desi Ghee / Oil 4 – 5 tbsp  -( 30 grams)
  • Cardamom - 3
  • Almonds - 10-12 pcs
  • Water-  2 cup

How to Make Handmade Punjabi Seviyan . Method: 

  • Take sugar and water in one pan. Let it boil and dissolve the sugar. When sugar dissolves it is ready.
  • Take a pan. Add desi ghee to it. When it heats up add cardamom.
  • Now add seviyan and fry in ghee for a few minutes. 
  • Add sugar syrup and cook on medium flame until water evaporates. 
  • Now put on low flame for 10 minutes.
  • Garnish with almonds.
  • Serve hot.

Q.1- Is vermicelli wheat or maida?


Traditionally vermicelli or seviyan is made with all-purpose flour (Maida). Different food colors are used to make these seviyan colorful.


Q.2- Does Seviyan increase weight?


Yes, it increases the weight because these are made with all-purpose flours. A lot of desi ghee is also used to cook this sweet dessert. This is a high-calorie recipe that increases blood sugar.
